1. No purchase is necessary to enter.

2. Eligibility: The Contest is open only to United Kingdom residents who are at least 18 years of age by 1 June, 2008. Employees and/or their immediate families of Sponsor (as defined below), and all affiliated companies, subsidiaries, and their advertising and promotion agencies (collectively, the "Promotion Parties") and their immediate families and those living in the same household are not eligible to enter. Entrants may enter this Contest only if entering the Contest will not put them in breach of, or conflict with, any agreements which they are a party to at the time of entry. The Contest shall be subject to these Official Rules, and by entering, all entrants agree to be bound by the terms and conditions of these Official Rules and by the decision of Sponsor, which shall be final in all matters relating to this Contest

3. Sponsor: The sponsor of this How British Are You ("Contest") is Red Squirrel Publishing, Suite 235, 77 Beak Street, London W1F 9DB, United Kingdom ("Sponsor").

4. Contest Period: The Contest submission period starts 1 June 2008 midnight Greenwich Mean Time ("GMT") and ends on 1 July 2008 at midnight GMT. Any entries received thereafter will be void.

5. How to Enter: To enter, entrants will need to register an account at lifeintheuk.net stating their occupation as Bookseller, and complete one free sample test. Incomplete entries will not be eligible for the judging. False, fraudulent or deceptive entries or acts shall render entrants ineligible. By entering the Contest, entrants affirm that they have read and accepted these Official Rules.

6. Rights: All entries submitted, become the sole and exclusive property of the Sponsor and will not be returned or acknowledged. Broadcast, distribution, display and/or publication of any entry entered in the Contest is at the sole discretion of Sponsor. Entrant agrees that Sponsor has no obligation to make any use of entrant's entry regardless of whether entrant is a Winner (defined in Rule 7 below). Entrant understands and agrees that entrant's name, likeness and other information may be posted on the Sponsor and other websites in connection with the Contest and without further compensation, permission or notification from/to entrant or any third party.


7. Prizes:
(a) One winning entry will be selected by Sponsor.

(b) The winning entrant ("Winner") will receive a £50 prize ("Prize").

(c) The Prize will be delivered to each Winner by recorded mail in the form of a cheque made payable to the Winner. Prizes will not be reissued or made payable to any other person.

No alternative prize or other substitution is permitted except in the sole discretion of Sponsor, in which case a prize of equal or greater value will be provided. Winners are responsible for all taxes on prizes. Prizes are non-transferable and may not be sold or otherwise used or exploited for any commercial purpose. The Winners, by acceptance of the prizes, agree that the Promotion Parties shall have no liability for injury or losses of any kind in connection with acceptance, receipt, fulfilment, ownership or use of the prizes awarded herein or while or in connection with preparing for or participating in any prize-related activity.

8. Winner Selection: There will only be one Winner. Red Squirrel Publishing and a panel of judges appointed by Sponsor, whose determinations will be final and binding in all matters relating to this Contest, will select the Winner at random from all eligible entries received during the Contest Period. Winners will be determined and announced on http://www.redsquirrelbooks.com on or about 1 July 2008. Winners must execute and return within five (5) days of receipt a liability release, a publicity release, and any other documentation that Sponsor requires, including without limitation an Assignment of Copyright in the Entry. Except where prohibited by law, acceptance of a prize by each Winner, is permission for Sponsor to use the name, Video, photo, likeness, biographical information, voice and home town (city only) of each Winner, for all purposes worldwide and in all media, without further compensation. ANY VIOLATION OF THESE OFFICIAL RULES OR ANY BEHAVIOR ON ANY WINNER'S PART THAT WILL BRING SUCH WINNER, SPONSOR AND/OR THE PROMOTION PARTIES INTO DISREPUTE (IN SPONSOR'S SOLE DISCRETION) MAY RESULT IN SUCH WINNER'S DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE CONTEST AND ALL PRIVILEGES A WINNER WILL BE IMMEDIATELY TERMINATED.

9. Release: The Promotion Parties are not responsible for: any incorrect or inaccurate entry information; human errors; technical malfunctions; failures, omissions, interruptions, deletions or defects of any telephone network, computer online systems, computer equipment, servers, providers, or software, including without limitation any injury or damage to entrant's or any other person's computer relating to or resulting from participation in the Contest; inability to access any website; theft, tampering, destruction, or unauthorised access to, or alteration of, entries; data that is processed late or incorrectly or is incomplete or lost due to telephone, computer or electronic malfunction or traffic congestion on telephone lines or the Internet or any website or for any other reason whatsoever.

10. Jurisdiction: The Contest shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the England and Wales, without regard to any conflict of laws principles. By entering the Contest, entrants hereby submit to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the courts located within England and Wales and waive the right to have disputes arising out of the subject matter hereof adjudicated in any other forum.

11. General Information: Any entry information collected from the Contest shall be used only in a manner consistent with the consent given by entrants at the time of the entry, with these Official Rules and with the Sponsor's Online Privacy Policy, which can be accessed at http://www.lifeintheuk.net/privacy. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify, delay or suspend the Contest due to any reason of a technical, creative or other nature in Sponsor's sole discretion.
All interpretations of the rules and decisions by Sponsor are final. If, for any reason this Contest is not capable of running as planned, or if this Contest or any website associated therewith (or any portion thereof) becomes corrupted or does not allow the proper playing of the Contest and processing of entries in accordance with these rules, or if infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, actions by entrants to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes, in Sponsor's sole opinion, corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual implicated in such action and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend this Contest or any portion thereof. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEBSITE (INCLUDING THE ENTRY SITE) OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND/OR CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES AND OTHER REMEDIES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. If a dispute arises about who submitted an entry, the entry will be deemed submitted by the authorised account holder of the e-mail account entered. The authorised account holder is deemed the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by the Internet access provider, or other online organisation responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. A Winner may be requested to provide Sponsor with proof that the Winner is the authorised account holder of the e-mail address associated with the winning entry and that all eligibility requirements are met. If a dispute cannot be resolved to Sponsor's satisfaction, the entry will be deemed ineligible.

Returns Period

  • Booksellers may return books for credit or refund if received within one year of the invoice date for titles that are in print

  • Out of print books will be accepted for return for three months after the title has been placed out of print

  • There is no restocking fee for returning books



Condition of Books

  • All books must be returned unblemished, unstickered and in re-saleable condition.

  • Any books returned that do not meet this requirement will not be credited.

  • Any book that is defective must be returned for credit or refund within 30 days of delivery date documentation.

  • A copy of the original invoice must be included with the return shipment. If no documentation exists then returns will be credited at standard published trade rates.


Returning Out of Date Books
Some titles may become out of date and are therefore no longer useful or appropriate for resale. In these cases, we do not require unsold books to be returned. Instead please follow our standard returns process but include the front cover of the book as proof of destruction. Refer to the out of print pages to check titles that can be returned using this process.

Your submission should include the following materials. These will help us assess your proposal

Prospectus
The Prospectus is a document that outlines all the key points about your book proposal and is the most important part of your pitch. It should include:


  • Introduction - A brief one page synopsis of the book.

  • Structure - Draft table of contents. Include a brief chapter summary for each section. If the title is co-authored or has contributors then note which sections other authors have committed to supplying.

  • Intended Audience - A profile of the types of people likely to buy the book. Quantify the audience sizes for each different reader type. Also identify any reader behaviours – i.e. is the book suited as a course work text book or more likely to be used for reference

  • Selling Points - Outline why you think this book should be published. Explain the unique aspects of your proposal.

  • Existing Titles - Reference other books that have already been published in this field and explain how your book differs.

  • Book Details - Provide the following specifics about the book – expected word count, list any photos or diagrams, formatting requirements,

  • Schedule - List your proposed schedule to complete the manuscript. Include specific tasks and milestones leading up to the manuscript completion.
